The parade is celebrated with great pomp and show. It includes the horses, weighing approximately 2,200 pounds each pulling a 109-year-old wagon. It also includes marching bands, the Shriner clowns and fire brigade, costumed marchers and a fleet of antique automobiles. There are Toys for Tots collection and appearances by city and state officials. It features the traditional floats made by local businesses, schools and community groups. All these floats compete for getting the Father Thomas Tierney Trophy, the one who was responsible for starting the parade.
4. You can also enjoy watching a candy-covered train with a gingerbread caboose decorated with gumdrops, lollipops and peppermint sticks. The Woodward School for Girls has even won for its 28-foot "Woodward School Gingerbread Train," which took about six weekends to build.
5. Santa's mail box is also set up in City Hall Plaza for children to send letters and asking for their wishes and gifts from Santa Claus.
6. The celebrations are in the weekends with the Light Ceremony on Friday, Saturday comes with welcoming the arrival of Santa Claus from the parachute and on Sunday, one of the biggest Christmas parades on the East Coast with all the usual and interesting activities are held.
